A packing is a sealing material used to prevent leaks from a part in motion or operation (e.g. rotational motion, reciprocating motion), mainly for pumps and valves. Packings have different formations, materials, and characteristics according to the applicable field, place, purpose, and use, and thus require an individual approach from the design stage.
